Apophis is a contemplation of one out of the five possibilities that human existence can be wiped out in seconds in the chronology of the cosmos, in the artist’s series ’Nostradamus'. It refers to the potential asteroid impact that caused a brief period of panic when it was discovered in December 2004; there is a probability of 2.7% of the asteroid, with a diameter of 370 meters, hitting the Earth on April 13, 2029. The work imagines this dread date; it is a countdown, a totem. A breathing pattern, in sync with the heartbeat of an inflating and deflating balloon, serves as a timer, a reminder of how time represents a 4th dimension in parallel to this apocalyptic scenario.
