Jae Jacyna is a multidisciplinary artist whose work focuses predominantly on poetry and moving image. Despite writing from the age of 16, it took until 2021 for Jacyna to publicly share their written works, and from this their style within their visual work has flourished.

 

Within Jacyna’s moving image and video pieces, they tend to focus on candid footage, such as videos of their friends, environments, and mainly themselves, taking inspiration from the phrase ‘I am the subject I know best’, from Frida Kahlo. Their work makes an effort to showcase the human identity, with themes of trauma, vulnerability and trust running through the veins of each piece. Both their written and visual creations are born from a place of experience, be it their own or other peoples’, and aims to evoke feelings of connection and nostalgia from their viewers.
